| Talking drums are part of a family of hourglass shaped pressure drums. The drum heads at either end of the drum's wooden body are made from hide, fish-skin or other membranes which are wrapped around a wooden hoop. Leather cords or thongs run the length of the drum's body and are wrapped around both hoops; when you squeeze these cords under your arm, the drum heads tighten, changing the instrument's pitch. One of the unique features of the instruments is their ability to closely imitate the rhythms and intonations of spoken language. This collection includes the Dundun from Nigeria, the Lunga from Ghana, and the Tama from Senegal. Up to 4 velocities, pitched and flat hits, muted hits, squeezes, and glisses will have you "talking up a storm". |

From the spiritual beat of Africa comes a sample library unlike any other. Atsić includes African percussion instruments traditional to the Ewe Tribe of Ghana. The Ewe tribe is located in the Southeastern section of Ghana in the Volta region. Originally the songs and dances of the tribe were performed before war, but in modern times mostly for rituals and dance. "Atsić", meaning "style" or "to display", is a social dance considered by most to be one of the oldest styles of dance and music in West Africa. It is a collection of songs and dances created by the Ewes, used in rituals and recreation for hundreds of years.
This unique, incredible collection was recorded at the legendary Blue Jay Studios through an SSL console. Stereo samples, natural ambience, heavily multi sampled with up to 4 velocity samples for each different type of hit. Also includes looped grooves of individual instruments, in both 4/4 and 6/8 time. Over 400 meg of samples!
All instrument hits and grooves were performed on authentic instruments, acquired by Joe Galeota on his many trips to Africa. Joe is an Associate Professor in the percussion department of Berklee College of Music, and the founder and owner of Jag Drums, manufacturers of quality African percussion instruments. Extensive 11 page documentation gives details on all the instruments and how they are played. |
